Cameron McConville has won the first Fujitsu V8 Series race at Winton Motor Raceway today.
The JAX Quickfit Tyres Commodore VE driver qualified second behind Steve Owen but made the best launch off the line, took the lead and led every lap of the race.
Pole-sitter Steve Owen finished second and maintained his healthy series lead, although there was drama behind the run-away leaders.
James Moffat eventually finished third after a poor start. He dropped well down the field but mounted a huge comeback to finish in the top three. His charge included a clash with TKR driver Matthew Hamilton.
Tim Blanchard took fourth place after starting the last lap in sixth place. He had to pass David Russell (struggling with an engine problem) and Nick Percat.
Fujitsu-backed rookie Scott McLaughlin was running a competitive fourth until taken out by Jack Perkins, who was handed a post-race 15 second penalty for the incident. McLaughlin, driving a Stone Brothers Racing-prepared Falcon, set the second fastest lap of the race. Ironically, Perkins will drive an SBR-prepared Falcon in the V8 endurance races …
Races 2 and 3 of the Fujitsu Series will be held tomorrow at Winton.
